The throwing axe could be used as a weapon in two ways during the Viking era. As a hand weapon, it was lethal, capable of breaking helmets, chainmail, and shields, while a volley of throwing axes could disrupt an enemy force and create a break in a shield wall. Our throwing axe has also proven to be a well-balanced piece in modern throwing competitions. Replacement handles are available under item OH2107.
