We recommend not storing the blade inside the sheath for long periods of time as leather is a hygroscopic material and can transmit moisture to the metal, causing it to rust over time. The carbon steel is untreated and may have rust, which can be easily removed. You can protect this item from rust with synthetic or mineral oil.
