Description:

Although Basket-Hilt swords appeared throughout Britain from the mid-sixteenth century on, their association with the seventeenth and eighteenth century Scottish highlander has become legendary.

The piece has been designed from an original in the collection of the Royal Armour in England. The original carries a typical Glasgow-style hilt from the mid-18th century. The original blade is marked with ´Andrea Ferara´, it probably was made in Germany a century earlier and re-hilted as basket designs were refined.

The hilt of the reproduction is made in stainless steel to minimize the maintenance, while the blade is forged in high-carbon steel. The grip is covered with wire-wrapped genuine ray skin and the basket liner, like the original, is crafted in fabric-covered sueded leather. The scabbard is leather-covered.

The steel is untreated and may have rust. To protect the steel you may rub it with mineral or synthetic oil.

The scabbard is designed for shipping not for storing so we suggest you not to keep the blade in the scabbard for long periods of time because metal can be rusted.
