In the 14th century sallet spread over Europe as a replacement of the bascinet. The large amount of artistic representation and original pieces indicate that even with a slight  German predominancy, this was a usual choice of helmet in Europe.

This specific model, with back tail and without visor, was commonly used by infantry and mercenary due to its versatility. You could say that in the middle of the 15th century is the protection predominant along with the kettle hat.
