This civilian weapon was developed during the Baroque period. It gradually replaced the rapier starting in the mid-17th century, due to an increasing need for lighter and less bulky weapons. This was caused by population growth and the consequent lack of space during this period. The sword was mainly carried by members of the upper social class.

The sword features a blade made of EN45 spring steel with a triangular cross-section, which is not sharpened. The guard and curved handguard are made of brass, with a wooden grip wrapped in brass wire.

The sword?s scabbard is made of wood covered in leather, with brass fittings and support rings, and a hook to attach the scabbard to a belt.
